Independent Services

Bethany Christian Services of Georgia provides independent and/ or identified adoption services through both our domestic and international programs.

DOMESTIC
Domestic Independent / Identified Services can be provided to married couples who just need a home study assessment completed and are already working with an attorney or agency other than Bethany for the placement of a child in their home for adoption. This may also be an option for couples who are not eligible for Bethany’s full Domestic Infant Adoption Program. Georgia requires a home study for all adoptions facilitated by an agency and for interstate adoptions that move a child from one state to another (some close relative adoptions are excluded). Many attorneys also require a home study for private adoptions. We can usually complete your home study assessment within two weeks of your submission of all of the required paperwork.

Getting Started
To get started, contact us to request an information packet that contains the application, fee schedule, and contract for services. Be sure to specify that you want the information packet for Independent Domestic Adoption. If approved, we will e-mail you all of the documents required for the home study and your Bethany Adoption Specialist will schedule her first appointment with you.

Important: If you already have an agency in mind that you would like to work with for adoption, but want to use Bethany as your home study agency, please check with the other agency first to verify that they will accept outside home studies before applying to Bethany.

Other Domestic Independent / Identified Services

  • Meeting with an expectant parent(s) to clarify her or his full understanding of making an adoption plan and collect the social and medical history required for a private adoption;
  • Providing comprehensive counseling to an expectant parent prior to an adoption plan being made or to a birthparent after an adoption plan has been completed;
  • Post-placement supervisory visits (available if the placement was facilitated by an agency out of state and the adoptive family subsequently moves to Georgia prior to finalization);
  • Full home study, legal work, counseling, and post-placement supervisory services for expectant parents and for prospective adoptive families matched through their own networking; and/or
  • Facilitation of mediated post-adoption contact between birth and adoptive families (sending letters and pictures, supervising visits, etc).

Additional Information
Services are provided for each potential adoption opportunity separately, the adoptive family’s profile is not shown to other expectant parents in counseling with Bethany, and fees are neither refundable nor transferable (in the full domestic infant adoption program, service fees are transferable and family profiles can be shown to multiple expectant parents in counseling with Bethany).

INTERNATIONAL
International Independent / Identified Services can be provided to applicants who need a home study assessment completed and are working with an agency other than Bethany for the placement of a child born overseas in their home for adoption. This may also be an option for applicants who are not eligible for Bethany’s full International Adoption Program. Bethany can work with applicants pursuing international adoption from a variety of countries, not just those in which Bethany has its own full international program.
